The Tweens & Technology second annual one-week Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Art (STEM + Art) camp was held at St. Andrews United Methodist Church beginning July 31, 2017.  The camp established by T&T Creative Group is aimed to introduce elementary age children, with the initiative on diversity and seeking the inclusion of girls to learn to code.  The camp is to help them see coding as a means to pursue STEM careers as part of their lives and potential career options.

Founder and CEO of T&T Creative Group, Derrick Thompson along with the company’s Chief of Staff & Director of Community Outreach,  Jacqui Pomales-Moody and Director of Education, Deb Daniels, have designed the Tweens & Technology Curriculum focus using the fun, visual “Scratch” programming language.  The Scratch programming will introduce students to basic skill sets of creating their own interactive games, stories, and animations setting a foundation for further exploration in computer programming.  The camp teams up with technology professionals who present and share  topics such as internet safety, music in tech, career opportunities, and robotics.

The camp has grown from 12 last year to 22 this year thanks to  our sponsors and  including our two  Platinum level corporations: PARC Consulting, National Business Training and Carolina Career College, the students not only walked away with an “all expense paid” one-week STEM + Art education and technology program, but a FREE Google Chromebook to further their Tween & Technology Camp experience.
